On behalf of the Philippine Bayanihan Society (Singapore), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the official website of the Bayanihan Centre.
We hope that the information you find here will be helpful and that you’ll develop an appreciation for what the Bayanihan Centre has to offer. This website will also provide visitors with a comprehensive overview of the Society, including its objectives, its Board Members and its activities.
The Bayanihan Centre has continued to provide Filipinos living in Singapore a venue to upgrade their skills and personal development since its inauguration in 2001 through the various training programmes held at the Centre.
We believe that the Centre has also helped enhance the understanding and appreciation of both Filipino and Singaporean culture and arts through the different artistic performances and events organized in and out of the Centre.
All these would not have been possible without the generous support of several organizations, particularly the Philippine Embassy in Singapore. We are also greatly appreciative of the continued financial support of the Philippine government, the Singapore government and Ascendas Singapore which has enabled us to maintain the upkeep of the Centre.
I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the enormous contributions made by my dedicated Committee members who have volunteered their most valuable time to serve. Without them the Society, the various activities of the Centre would not have come to fruition.
With this website, we hope to reach out to more Filipinos working and living in Singapore. We welcome your comments and appreciate your interest in the Bayanihan Centre and the Society.
Sincerely,
Jennie Chua
Honorary President
Welcome to the website of the Philippine Bayanihan Centre in Singapore!
The Centre was established as a joint project of the Philippine and Singapore Governments, with the generous support of Singapore companies doing business in the Philippines.
The term "bayanihan" comes from the root word "bayani" meaning hero. Community self-help or "bayanihan" is "dying" to oneself to be of service to others.
True to this spirit of giving of oneself for the good of the neighbor and community, the Bayanihan Centre seeks to provide the venue and the moving spirit behind several Filipino community activities not only in skills training program but also in fostering deeper Philippine - Singapore relations.
I note with pride that this "bayanihan" spirit has transcended national boundaries and a number of other nationalities have availed of the facilities and services of the Centre.
The Center has indeed grown, expanded and diversified its services and course offerings in the past six years. Facilities at the Center have also been improved and upgraded. Many seminars and workshops aimed at enhancing wealth management and other skills of Filipino workers in Singapore have been organized over the years.
All these were undertaken under the enlightened leadership and guidance of a Management Board led by its indefatigable Honorary President Ms. Jennie Chua since the Center's inception in August 2001. Indeed, many of the Center's accomplishments and milestones were achieved under her leadership tenure and for this the Filipinos in Singapore are truly appreciative. We look forward to her continued involvement in the Center's activities as President Emeritus and Adviser.
As the mantle of leadership has now been turned over to the new Honorary President Professor Roberto S. Mariano, the Center can look forward to more activities, new course offerings, further improvements – in continuance of the spirit of bayanihan that pervades all the undertakings of the Center, as well as in the Center's avowed objectives of helping our Filipino workers in Singapore as well as in enhancing the socio-cultural ties that link the Filipinos in Singapore to their host country, and in the larger context of Philippines and Singapore relations.
I invite you all to visit the Center and to take part in its many activities.
Maraming salamat po at Mabuhay!
